At Nelson Boxing Club, we believe our impact extends far beyond the ring.
More Than Boxing
Land Acknowledgment
We respectfully acknowledge that Nelson Boxing Club is located on the unceded Sinixt tmxʷúlaʔxʷ (homeland), in what is now called British Columbia.
A map of these lands is displayed on our front doors facing Baker Street, in the heart of downtown Nelson, serving as a daily reminder of our presence on Indigenous land.
We have been supporting the Blood of Life Collective, which is a collective of Sinixt and settlers activist who are working together to help the Sinixt Peoples and their culture resurge from the ongoing devastation of colonialism and bureaucratic extinction. More information can be found on their website.
We acknowledge that other Indigenous groups also make their home here; we invite everyone settling here to start their personal journey of education into the complexity of the political and historical damages which were and still are inflicted onto the Indigenous people of this land.
This is also the reason why we cooperate with the Autonomous Sinixt and we invite you to know more about their history and ongoing projects to keep stewarding this land and preserve their cultural heritage. You can learn more here.

MAA PRESS
We are also proud of carrying and displaying on our front desk books about this from Maas Press, which our staff member Catherine Fisher works as part of.

Visual Art
SUPPORTING CREATIVITY INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE RING
At Nelson Boxing Club, we believe that expression takes many forms — and that art, like boxing, can be a powerful tool for storytelling, healing, and connection. That’s why we proudly support local visual artists by opening our space to showcase their work. From paintings and photographs to murals and mixed media, our gym becomes a canvas for the community. These collaborations celebrate identity, resilience, and the vibrant culture that surrounds the sport.
Shane Haltman’s
Nelson Local Artist
Like many local artists Shane had a stand at one of the summer markets in Nelson, when one of our team mates bumped into his work. The visual and conceptual connection was immediate, as Matheus told him: “ You should come down to the gym and talk to the owners, your art would look great in that space!”.
This is exactly how it happened and when Shane came down the stairs we had a great conversation about what kind of Art and meanings we are trying to convey here at the club. Shane’s art blurs reality with imagination, mixing documentary with surrealism, analog with digital, and memories with dreams; it felt like the perfect mix!
Just like our mission as a community oriented club Hälts Art reflects themes of peace, environmental care, and connections. His art is still up on our walls from winter 2024 until fall 2025.
Shane is open to commissions and collaborations, reachable through his contact page. Thank you for your interest.

Maasa Craig’s
Vestibulum euismod nisl suscipit ligula volutpat, a feugiat urna maximus. Cras massa nibh, tincidunt ut eros a, vulputate consequat odio.
Xochilt met Maasa through the Flamenco dancing journey, and since they became friends their relationship deepens with time. Life is full of challenges and Maasa has been an inspiration on how to face them, using her words to present her art she says: “ Painting as a spiritual practice”.
Living in a town like Nelson, where there’s an abundance of people/business who work in the holistic field, we found that Maasa’s words were not only a statement, but an actual coherent way of living her life and sharing her gifts with the world. This is why we felt honored to have her creations on our walls during the summer and fall of 2024, it felt like a blessing hosting her work and feeling her presence in our space.
